Who is behind it

Two people, one ski problem

FriSki is not a company with a support queue. It is two of us building the app we wanted on the mountain, and a few hundred metres of piste between the idea and the test.

Why FriSki exists

A ski group splits up within twenty minutes of the first lift. Someone takes the red, someone else is still in the queue, and the rest of the morning turns into a search party conducted through a group chat that nobody can read with gloves on.

Every fix we tried made it worse. Messaging apps demand your hands and your attention at exactly the moment you have neither. Trail boards tell you where the runs are, not where your friends are.

So FriSki was built the other way round. Your friends live on the piste map as beacons, and the app speaks in your ears when one of them is close, helping you check the phone less. You download the maps before you ride the first lift, because the best snow is usually where the signal is not.

The two of us

No support desk sits between you and the people writing the code. Mail the beta address and one of us replies.

How we build it

Audio first

The best interface on a mountain is no interface

Spoken alerts and directions help you check the phone less often. The map is there when you want the full picture; Garmin watch hardware validation is still in progress.

Offline first

Built for the dead zones, not the demo

Download a resort before you go and its pistes, lifts and place names are on your phone. A resort with no bars is where the app has to work hardest, so that is what it is designed around.

Your group only

Location is borrowed, never collected

Groups are invite-only, only your latest position is kept, and there is no movement history to leak. Ghost mode stops the broadcast without making you leave the group.

Small on purpose

Two people, so you get a straight answer

Being this small is a constraint and a feature. We ship slower than a funded team and we answer our own mail, so what beta friends ask for is what gets built next.

Where FriSki is right now

Beta, and honest about it. Not in the App Store or Google Play yet. The free beta is for Android and iPhone: join the waitlist and we’ll email you an invite. It covers 27 ski resorts across France, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Andorra, Bulgaria and Georgia, and it is free while the beta runs.

Say hello

Bug, feature, a resort you want next, or an argument about whether the alerts should trigger at 200 metres. All of it lands with us: support@friski.co.

Ski with your friends, not after them
