Safety first
FriSki is not a safety device. Positions and alerts can be delayed or wrong. In an
emergency, call your local emergency number or ski patrol — do not rely on the app.
Friends are not showing on the map
- Check that location sharing is on: Settings → Location sharing.
- Check that you are both in the same group, and that you have that group selected.
- Someone in ghost mode appears approximate or hidden on purpose.
- Mountains eat signal. A position that has not updated for a while is shown as stale rather than moved.
- On iOS, location permission must be Always for friends to keep seeing you once the app is off screen.
Background location keeps stopping
- iOS: Settings → FriSki → Location → Always, and turn on Precise Location.
- Android: allow location “All the time”, then exempt FriSki from battery optimisation — aggressive power saving is the usual culprit.
- While tracking runs, Android shows a permanent “FriSki is tracking your location” notification. If it disappears, tracking stopped.
I am not getting notifications
- Allow notifications for FriSki in your device settings.
- Check the per-type switches in Settings → Notifications in the app.
- Notifications need a working connection — they will not arrive while your phone is offline.
Joining a group
- Groups are invite-only. Ask a member for the invite link, the QR code, or the invite code.
- An invite link opens FriSki directly if the app is installed.
- Invite codes can expire, and a group can be full. If a code is refused, ask for a fresh one.
Reporting someone, or blocking them
Press and hold any message in group chat to report it or
block the person who sent it. You can also block someone from their
card in the members list.
- Blocking hides that person’s messages from you in every group you share.
- They are not told that you blocked them.
- They stay visible on the map — on a mountain, hiding where somebody is would be the more dangerous choice.
- Undo a block from Settings → Blocked people.
We review reports of objectionable content and act on them, up to removing content
and suspending accounts. If someone is in danger, contact the emergency services
rather than us.
Deleting your account
Settings → Account → Delete account, which is immediate and
irreversible. See deleting your account for exactly
what is erased.
Battery
Live location sharing uses GPS continuously, which costs battery on any app that does
it. FriSki eases off its update rate when you are still and when your battery gets
low. On a full day out, a small power bank is a good idea.
