Austrian skiing tends to end the day a long way from where it started, which makes a shared meeting point more useful than any amount of messaging. Set one on a hut and everyone gets their own distance and estimate to it, spoken as they ski.

When a friend comes within the distance you choose (100, 200 or 500 metres), FriSki says so out loud in your headphones. Friend alerts and spoken directions help you check your phone less often while you ski.

Download your resort on Wi-Fi before you go. Pistes, lifts and place names are then stored on your phone, and GPS needs no network, so in a dead zone the map keeps drawing and your route keeps going. Your friends come back the moment coverage does.
